Beaches & Parks of Key West

Take a day to lay out and catch some Key West sunshine.  Your golden tan is sure to make your friends back home envious.  Beaches in Key West are not guarded by lifeguards, so swim at your own risk. And even though Key West is known for being a party town, nude sunbathing is illegal. However, there are a few places that still cater to the nudist.  Check out our Clothing Optional page for additional information.  Fishing is allowed off some piers and at most beaches, and you do not need a fishing license to fish from shore! If you catch a keeper, don't throw it back; bring it on over to a local restaurant so they can cook it up for you.

There are several small mangrove islands with deserted beaches all around Key West that are only accessible by boat.  Let Dream Catcher Charters take you out for a fun filled day on the water, showing you dolphins, birds, turtles, stingrays, and allowing you to explore some of the uninhabited islands that only the locals know about.  There is no more exciting or romantic way to spend your day in Paradise.
Dog Beach- This rocky, slippery beach has no restroom facilities.
Fort Jefferson State Park/ The Dry Tortugas- Visit the Dry Tortugas & Fort Jefferson by ferry or by Sea Plane. Take a tour of this historical Civil War Fort that was once home to John Wilkes Booth. Snorkel the beautiful beaches and see a living coral reef--Florida's Best Kept Secret! Trips depart daily.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park- A favorite beach of Key West locals. Features of this 87 acre facility include public restroom, concession stand, chair rentals, picnic tables, BBQ's and a pre-Civil War fort. Entrance fees apply.
Higgs Beach- Features of this beach include white sand, warm shallow water, volleyball net, and a pier.  While you are there, stop for lunch or a drink at Salute, a fabulous Italian restaurant overlooking the beach or visit the Martello Museum.  And across the street is now a park specifically for dog walking!!  Water fountains for both the dogs and their humans are available.
Indigenous Park- This native tree park and bird sanctuary is open Monday - Friday from 7am-4pm.
Rest Beach- Wheelchair accessible sandy beach and fishing pier.  Restrooms walking distance from beach.
Simonton Beach- Small public beach in Old Town currently closed to the public.
Smathers Beach- Man made beach with features including restrooms, parking, concession stands, chair rentals, bike paths, picnic tables, volleyball nets, and an array of watersports such as parasailing and windsurfing.
