Cheeca Lodge and Spa |
|
Cheeca
Lodge's history began in 1946, when Mrs. Clara Mae Downey built the
Islamorada Olney Inn on the present site. The next owners were the heirs of
the A & P grocery chain, Carl and Cynthia "Che-Che" Twitchell, who totally
rebuilt and renamed the resort "Cheeca" by merging their names. Cheeca was
purchased by Coca-Cola bottler Carl Navarre in the 1970's. The Navarre
family still maintains a home on the property. Today, Cheeca Lodge is owned
by Cheeca Holdings, LLC and it is managed by Vail Resorts of Vail, Colorado.
Cheeca is part of RockResorts, the luxury arm of Vail Resort's hotel brands. |

Curt Gowdy Lounge
Many a tall fishing tale has been told about "the one that
got away" in the Curt Gowdy Lounge, Cheeca’s oceanfront bar that offers a
light menu and generous libations. Trophy game fish adorn the walls, along
with an extensive photo gallery of the many celebrities that have visited
Cheeca. The lounge is named after famed sportscaster Curt Gowdy, known as
"The American Sportsman." Patrons can relax in air-conditioned comfort in
the lounge, or move outside to the Curt Gowdy Deck, with a fantastic view of
the Atlantic Ocean and deep blue Gulfstream. The Curt Gowdy Lounge is open
nightly. |
Ocean Terrace Grill
This casual, open-air restaurant features air-conditioned
seating indoors beneath lazy swirling ceiling fans or outside next to the
resort’s beautiful free-form pool. Diners are sure to spot Sam the egret,
Cheeca’s official mascot. Children 12 and under can choose from an
assortment of "kid-friendly" items from Cheeca’s extensive children’s menu.
The Ocean Terrace Grill is open daily for breakfast and lunch, and evenings
for dinner during the winter season. |
Atlantic's Edge
The fine dining room at Cheeca Lodge & Spa is one of the most
critically acclaimed restaurants in Florida. Featuring panoramic views of
the Atlantic Ocean and seating indoors and outdoors on the spacious wooden
deck, the menu includes a sumptuous array of fresh seafood, fine steaks and
a variety of other selection.Chef
Andy Niedenthal
prides himself on serving only fresh, indigenous products that are not
over-harvested. Many of the menu items are inspired by the resort’s Avanyu
Spa, carefully selected and nutritionally prepared by Chef Niedenthal. The
Atlantic’s Edge restaurant is open nightly, and also features a superb
Sunday Brunch during the resort’s winter season. |
